I am a high school teacher by day, a MFA fiction writing student by night and use any free time in between to write, write, write! My debut YA novel CANARY is coming out August 1, 2013 from Medallion Press! Hot diggity dog!
I will be waking up EARLY (aka…five-thirty) tomorrow to go to the airport and fly out to San Francisco. I have all my stuff packed (and I mean ALL my stuff). Do you think it’s a bad sign when you have to sit on the suitcase to zip it and then can’t lift it into the car? What about the fact that I packed eight pairs of shoes? Shoot! I just can’t part with any of them! We are only allowed one suitcase on the trip over, but we can bring a second one back. My question is…when can we start using the second suitcase? This is a big concern because I cannot fit another thing into my suitcase now (not even a small pack of gum…seriously!). Wish me luck!
Please visit my site often. I will try to update it as much as possible. I am excited about my trip and excited to share it all with everyone!

I had some great helpers this past week who I want to say a big THANK YOU to!
Third graders from both Perry City Schools and Willoughby City Schools made patriotic bookmarks for me to take to Japan!
The classes listened to stories about America and learned about Japan from their teachers. They then created beautiful, magnificent, splendid bookmarks about America for me to share with my new Japanese elementary school friends! I have pictures of Mrs. Savron’s third grade class that I plan to share along with the bookmarks. I am hoping I can bring home a picture of the classes I meet there for my third grade helpers! Thanks for the great bookmarks!
Finally…the tickets are here! I was starting to worry, because I had not received my plane tickets and a lot of other people had. However, when I arrived home on Friday they were there! The good news is that I am flying out of Cleveland, but the bad news is that the flights are long! Ha!
I fly out bright and early Sunday morning with a layover in Chicago, and then I fly onward to San Francisco. I arrive at 12:45 and we start meetings at 2:00. I am going to have a long day! We have a banquet at seven that sounds like fun, and then my friend Nick and I plan to explore the city of San Francisco a little bit.
We leave in two groups on Monday for Japan. I have the early flight, which will give me more time in Japan! The flight is ten hours long (whoa!). I fly from Tokyo to Chicago on the way home, which will be an even longer trip. I’m hoping for an aisle seat!
